Hello World! Sorry for being a little MIA over the weekend. It was our 5th Wedding Anniversary here at The Dedicated House; on the 11th to be precise. The Dedicated Husband surprised me with a very beautiful sapphire ring and took me out on a surprise date! He was definitely worth the wait! If any of you single gals out there are getting impatient...well don't! I didn't get married until I was the big 40 due to the fact that the right man had not presented himself yet. And, when my daughter comes of age and if the right man has not presented himself yet, I will tell her the same thing. Don't get impatient, and relax and enjoy your life.
Okay, on to the matter at hand. I have cabinet envy. You know, most houses have those two cabinets above the refrigerator. Well, mine does not. So, I had to decorate this big gaping space that I would stare at every time I walked into the kitchen. Here is a little preview.
Here are some of the items I decorated with.
Little stars from Goodwill $0.99 for the pair.
Cow print from Kirkland's on sale for $14.99.
White lantern from Home Goods $5.00.
Little brass planter from Goodwill for $1.99.
Cake plate from Home Goods $12.99.
Crates from my next door neighbor for free. She was probably glad to get them off of her hands.
Here is the space all decorated.
Chalkboard from Hobby Lobby. Painted the frame with some craft paint. It states, Taste and see that the Lord is good. Now shut the refrigerator door! The first part is from Psalm 34:8. The second part is from me!
Lightly spray painted the crate and used it as a height helper.
Little brass bowl, spray painted white. I exchanged the green ribbon for a blue and white one I had in my stash.
There is the cow print with one of my husband's red lanterns and the little Home Goods lantern.
Creamy container was picked up at Hobby Lobby for $10.00. Little stars got a fresh coat of paint.
You can see from this picture how lightly I painted the crate.
Keeping it real. I did not take everything off of my refrigerator for the pictures. This is life and it gets a little messy sometimes! You can see the years of Christmas Card photos in this pic.
Here's a close up of the container from Hobby Lobby.
I would still love to have the two little cabinets, but I'm happy with how the space turned out. Also, it was a great time to clean off the top of the refrigerator. I promise to take pictures of the entire kitchen in the future so you can see a wide shot. Time got away from me and I could only take the pictures at night. The wide shots were just too dark and I couldn't tweak them to make them look halfway decent.
So, what do you think? Do you have the two cabinets or the gaping hole? Have a grand day and remember to be kind to one another.
Toodles,
Kathryn

I love it! It's so much better than those cabinet doors that you can not use.
ReplyDeleteI paint everything too. I love the red, white and blue!

It looks great! I have cabinets above my fridge, but I'm too short to reach them! So basically, I just have 2 empty cabinets above my fridge...
ReplyDeleteYOU have been a busy little bee! I think you did a great job of decorating the empty space above the fridge. I also have two cabinets that are empty because I can't reach them either!!! Wasted space I'd say.

When we bought our house, the builder had put cabinets over wHere the fridge would go, but they were tiny. When the fridge got installed, there was about a foot between the top of it and the bottom of the cabinets. It looked worse than if there were no cabinets! Thankfully we were able to convince him he made them the wrong size and he fixed them!

It looks terrific! Love the cake plate, and the chalkboard saying is adorable! I actually miss being able to stick things up on the refrigerator door. Our stainless frig doesn't take magnets. Love the red, white, and blue theme and the cow print is great! Thanks for sharing.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Who needs cabinets above the fridge? ;) You did a great job of bringing together all of these treasures. It's a huge bonus that they were such bargains. I'm so impressed.

Great that you saved the two lanterns from the garage... :D Autumn greetings from Australia♥ ~Pernilla
ReplyDeleteI think this looks absolutely charming and much better than those little cabinets, Kathryn! I have those cabinets, and they are pretty much useless -- at least mine are because they are shallow, not the depth of the fridge. The two red lanterns look so cute adding their splash of color!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the anniversary! I married young, and we will be celebrating 44 years in June. I am one of the very fortunate ones who didn't have to be patient for very long to find the right one!
