What Do You See?

Hello World!  I've been pondering for quite a while about my walls.  In my previous house and condo, I had plenty of items to hang on the walls.  Plaques, paintings, mirrors, and embroidery items.  In this house, not so much.  So, I've been buying as much as I can at all of my different shopping haunts.  Here's a picture of a mirror I repainted.

A couple of months back I found this mirror at Goodwill for $6.99.

It's not fancy, but it has a nice simple shape.  I think it was attached to a child's dresser at one point.  I almost didn't buy it, but the price kept luring me back in.  $6.99, $6.99, $6.99.  So, I bought her, brought her home and completely ignored her.  I would look at her at least once a day and think I should really paint this and hang it somewhere.

This past week, we stayed in all week due to the triple digit heat and The Dedicated Daughter had a little cold in her nose and I had some strange stomach virus.  Whenever we are puny, we seem to feel puny together.  There was a lot of cuddling on the couch watching Tinkerbell movies.  No complaints here.  But, I was restless even though I didn't feel 100%.  When The Dedicated Daughter was down for her nap one day, I stripped and painted this mirror.  It took four coats of stripper to get down to the original wood.  Then it took three coats of paint to get her to look a little pretty.

While I was doing this, I couldn't help but look at my reflection in the mirror.  I started thinking that if I were 20 years younger, I would hate my red hair, freckles, white skin, and curvish figure.  (Always been an hour glass).  Now, I don't even see it.  I look deeper.  When people see me, I want them to see kindness, sweetness, graciousness, fun-loving, loyalty, gentleness, and a courageous spirit.  The past 20 years, God has used His loving ways to strip me of unlovely attributes and plant the seeds of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  He has adorned me like I have adorned this mirror with paint.  Oh, I still have flaws, just like this mirror.  But, when I look in the mirror I remind myself that He is not done with me yet.  Nowadays, I love my red hair, freckles, white skin, and working on less of a curvish figure.  I know, that I know, that I know, there is something deeper and greater in me than what is on this shell.  And, if I let that greatness shine through me, people will see kindness, sweetness, graciousness, fun-loving, loyalty, gentleness, and a courageous spirit.

How do you like my simple little mirror?

Finally, I have something else on my dining room walls.  She's a pretty one, like we all are.  Do you look deeper when you look in the mirror?  Do you see all the wonderfulness you are?  Do you see all the dreams and possibilities that are in front of you?  They are there.  You just have to look.  And, if you need new dreams and a new vision, there is One who can usher you into a life that is beyond limits.  Oh, how He loves us!

Well, my lovelies, that's it for today!  Enjoy your day and remember to be kind to one another and to be kind to yourself; especially as you look in the mirror.

Toodles,
Kathryn

  12. Hi Kathryn -
Your thoughts about a mirror's reflection are so much deeper and wiser than mine. When painting a mirror and looking down into it, I secretly cringe. Every wrinkle, sag and flaw emphasized! Thanks for reminding me that I am more than what is seen on the surface.

And your mirror turned out super! You must love how it brings a new dimension to your room.

    Wishing you a great day!

    1. Hi Judi! The paint above the chair rail is the same color as below. Once the base is dry, I took a wide brush dipped in white glaze. Starting at the top by the ceiling I "comb" down the wall, not leaving the wall down to the chair rail. It's like taking a comb and combing through long hair. If you accidentally leave the wall, you have to start all over from the top. It's a great quad workout. If you have anymore questions, just let me know. Toodles, Kathryn

  56. I love your simple mirror and the blue walls. Lovely. I think as Christians we all start looking deeper as we get older and hope people see more of Jesus when they look at us than the physical person we are. That they see more of His sweet spirit shining through. Loved your post. Thanks for linking up at Transformed Tuesday. Hugs, Peggy
