The Story of a Dining Room

Hello World!  Happy Thursday and all that jazz!  The dining room is in a season of change...kind of like the rest of my house.

Here is a before pic of what she looked like after we moved in.  Well, after we moved in, had a baby and she grew quite a bit. Basically, nothing had been done.
Before any paint.  Look at my little bald babies.

Once I decided to go blue and white.  The Dedicated Niece, Gabriella, dressing up as an 80's aerobics instructor for Halloween.  And, Camille popping in the picture.

Okay, isn't she so flippin' cute?  See the sewing machine on the table?  This is where all the sewing magic happens...or rather, where my Mom sits beside me and walks me through my sewing projects after I've called her and begged her to come over with the promise of food.  It works every time!  Mom, you better still come over for the curtains project after reading this.  Kisses.  lol.

Here she is a bit cleaned up.  The dining room furniture is my Mom's.  When I moved out to CA, I had a cherry table, chairs, china hutch, and a sideboard.  The condo I was moving into could not hold all of the furniture.  So, all my cherry furniture went to my Mom's house.  She then put her oak furniture in storage.  When I moved back to Texas with The Dedicated Husband, great with child, I tried to get my cherry furniture back from my Mom.  She didn't go for it.  So, we have the oak, which my Mom plans to sell.  Don't worry, she won't sell it until we get a replacement.

The chairs have been covered, but I'm not completely happy with the paint job.  The paint above the chair rail is the same as the paint color below the rail.  However, above the chair rail, I brushed on a white glaze from top to bottom. Great quad workout going up and down the ladder with smooth steps while maintaining contact with the wall with my brush.  The top portion I'm okay with.  It's the bottom portion I'm not happy with.

Notice Anything?

There it is, a little sneak peek as to what's going on below the chair rail.  Stay tuned.  Also, big, exciting news!  I'm guest posting tomorrow at Red Door Kitchen.  Drop back in for a visit tomorrow and I'll have a link to head over to Red Door Kitchen.  Have a good rest of your day and remember to be kind to one another!

  1. Wow, love all the blues, the new/bottom blue will be great! Your mom's oak dining set looks like it's in great shape, lucky you! I've had my mom's old pecan table for twenty years. Only has four chairs, but I'm not quite ready to let it go.

  2. Thanks Jill! Mom took really good care of her furniture. I hope to do it justice. I don't blame you for holding on to your mom's pecan table. I'm sure it holds special memories.

  14. Kathryn, your dining room is a beautiful place. I love the furniture and all the photos of it too. I also love blue and white. Many years ago we had our dining room blue like that, than it became pale yellow and now it's white since last year. Camille is adorable! Have a terrific weekend.
