Is a Memory Foam Mattress Worth the Investment?

Hello World! Few things are better than a good night’s sleep, and few things are worse than consistently sleeping poorly at night. Since the quality of your mattress is one of the primary indicators of your sleep quality, it is important to make sure you choose one that is just right for your needs. However, doing so can be trickier than it seems, especially since there are so many different types of mattresses out there, including pricey memory foam mattresses. If you have been wondering whether a memory foam mattress is worth the investment, here are a few things you should know.

What Exactly Is Memory Foam?

Memory foam is made from viscoelastic, which is a substance that was first designed to be used in NASA airplane seats. If you have ever seen commercials depicting one person jumping on a memory foam bed while the other person sleeps soundly, then you know just how energy-absorbent memory foam can be. It is also very soft, which makes it appealing to individuals who prefer soft, snuggly beds over firm beds.

Benefits of Memory Foam

Memory foam is best known for its ability to conform to the contours of the body and thus provide support for the spine. However, since sleep quality is a very difficult thing to study, there is not yet solid evidence that memory foam actually delivers a better night’s sleep than other types of mattresses. Due to a lack of hard evidence, doctors have relied primarily on patient testimonials to determine whether memory foam mattresses are worth the investment. Many patients have submitted enthusiastic reviews of their memory foam beds, claiming that they have never slept better. Older people seem to benefit especially well from memory foam mattresses.

Some doctors agree that memory foam may help improve sleep by relieving pressure points that some other mattresses may cause on the body. Although there may not be hard evidence to support the value of memory foam bedding, those who experience pain relief and higher quality sleep due to their memory foam mattresses will undoubtedly agree that they are well worth the investment.

What kind of mattress do you have?  Do you love it or are you ready for a change?

Have a lovely day!  Go with God and remember to be kind to one another!

  1. Personally I do not like memory foam...it seems to hold body heat more than a regular quilt top mattress. I can't stand to be the least bit over-warm while sleeping. My favorite mattress is Somma water tubes...the mattress I have takes regular sheets and is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.

  2. I had a memory foam mattress in my guest bedroom at my old house. Can't say how comfortable it was since I never slept on it but I do know the person I gave it to was a medical student and so happy it was a memory foam. I have memory foam pillows now - at least my hubby sleeps on one - I tried to but couldn't get comfortable, so I went back to my down pillows.

  3. We have slept on memory foam for years. Our first was an early temperpedic and it did not hold up well. Then we had a Serra memory foam. It did well. And now we have a Generic brand and it is doing very well and much less expensive. For us...we really like it. We have one in our guest room and our daughter and son in law say they sleep better when the visit. Sheila

  6. As a final step, ask them to let you have a test nap on one of the mattresses you have chosen. Place it on a box spring and see if it's comfortable in all positions. Always prioritize your needs when you go shopping for a mattress at a mattress warehouse. Comfort, correct dimensions, quality and price are some of the factors to consider while choosing a mattress. memoryfoamhq.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-memory-foam-mattresses/
