Hello World! How many of my readers are dog lovers? We don't have a dog in our family, but my sister has cute, little Aslan.
Isn't he cute? He's a Yorki Poo. Aslan has given my sister's family so much joy. But, they did go through a period of time when they first got him getting him trained.
A happy puppy is a bundle of joy wrapped in sunshine, but before you take them away from the shelter, it's important that your home is ready for their little paws. Here are just a few things to consider when puppy-proofing your property.
Blankets
Puppies are used to the warmth and company of their litter mates, so your new home will be big, scary and cold. Make sure their bedding comes with lots of comfortable, scrunched-up blankets that they can wiggle in and scent mark. Small stuffed animals may ease the transition as well.
Training Pads
It's never too early to start house-training them, and puppy training pads are a gentle, loving way to make sure the lessons begin early. The sooner you can teach your puppy that peeing on the carpet is a no-no, the more you'll save on cleaning costs.
Collar
You never know when your little adventurer may wander outside or mysteriously appear on a neighbor's balcony. Collar them early so they'll become comfortable with the sensation as they age, making it easier for you to introduce training collars or flea collars in their later years as need necessitates.
Toys
Every puppy loves toys! Go crazy. Buy them all. Balls can be thrown and fetched; noise-makers will surprise and delight; chew toys will see plenty of action as your puppy grows older and his teeth elongate. No one can play with their furry friends 24/7, but a healthy selection of toys will ease the pain of your terrible, terrible neglect.

ReplyDeleteWe have a new puppy (Zuchon) and she brings much joy to our empty nest home.
ReplyDeleteWe have two miniature short-haired doxies and they are the love of our lives. Dachshunds are supposed to be difficult to train but I was very diligent and took them out every two hours when they were babies. I took them the same way so they learned where to go when it was time to go out. I have to say mine are trained like a gem. I had two accidents when they were babies and unless they are sick I have never had a problem. Puppies love routine.
